What Are My Options?
~ Option 1~- For students and adults: 30 hours classroom- 6 hours behind the wheel- $375- Student’s can obtain a Driver’s Education Permit OR a Learner’s
Permit~ Student’s may take the driving test at Sammers, in one of Sammers cars rather than in their own car at the BMV- These classes are 3 to 8
weeks long and run throughout the year.
~Option 2~- For adults only: 4 hours individual behind the wheel instruction- $240- Adults can only obtain a Learner’s Permit, and may only
take the driving test at the BMV in their own car.- These lessons are scheduled with the individual instructor and are generally
completed within one month. In both instances, additional driving hours may be scheduled
if the student and/or instructor feel it is necessary, at a rate of $60 per hour
~Option 3~ Complete online driver education course and then complete
6 hours behind the wheel instruction with Sammers. The fee for 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction is $350.
What is the Difference?
~ Driver’s Education Permit: This permit is issued to any beginning driver who is at least fifteen years & 180 days of age and is enrolled in
a driver’s education course. Once the driver’s education program has begun the student may
operate an automobile while the passenger seat is occupied by a driver’s education instructor, or by a parent or guardian
who holds a valid Indiana Drivers License. This permit is valid for 2 years. This permit
will be void if the student does not successfully complete the driver’s education course.
~Learner’s Permit:
This permit is issued to any beginning driver who is at least sixteen years of age, and
has successfully completed the written examination at the BMV and may practice driving with a licensed parent, guardian,
step-parent or relative who is 21 yrs or older. Any person, eighteen years and older, holding this permit
may operate an automobile while the passenger seat is occupied by anyone who holds a valid Indiana Driver’s License.
This permit is valid for 2 years. This permit will not be void if the student fails to successfully
complete the driver’s education course.
